Make training a priority

Progress in BJJ is pretty simple really. Consistent training. Thats it. I dont know why but there has been a run on excuses recently on why people aren't training. And I simply say make training a priority in your life if you are serious about getting better. Injuries happen all the time, but how people respond varies greatly. One guy comes and sits on the mat and watches every class for months even though he cant train and the other just doesn't come at all. Whats the difference? Priorities. Training in Martial Arts has to be a habit, a ritual, a non-negeotiable. Once your in the groove your confidence, fitness, technique all improve and life gets much easier. If you want to enjoy your training, be consistent, make it a priority. People are happier and healthier when training regularly. Its cheaper than therapy and much more fun than going to the gym.

Saturday Lunch

This Saturday will be Pete's last training session for sometime as work is taking him interstate. As usual we will head out for lunch after training. Please come and join us for a counter lunch somewhere, perhaps Kirks in Mornington after 2pm, for a few beers to say goodbye. Pete has made great progress in BJJ and has become a big part of our club. We wish him the best in his future endeavours. Osu.

Blog Update...time to wind down.

Firstly, thanks to those of you who have given me great feedback about this blog. I like finding and sharing MMA and BJJ videos that help with my training and cover the sport of MMA. Seems as though many others find it useful also. I have been able to keep up almost daily updates since mid 2007. But life is about to get very busy for me in the next few months so this will mean less regular blog updates. Please keep checking back with this site occasionally, but there will be no more daily updates until things settle down for me time wise. Going back through the previous posts over the last three years may be useful for some, I think there is some valuable material there to sift through, if the links are still active of course. Take Care. See you on the mat.

Dana White talks UFC 112

I couldn't even sit through the final round of this fight. Disgrace. Unless Silva is deliberately trying to piss off the UFC (and succeeding admirably then btw), which is possible, I cant see why he fights this way. But to have so much talent and so little heart is a crime. A champion Anderson Silva is not. Also Edgar was busier than Penn but I was not really convinced he won the fight. Take a look at the stats from Fightmetric on the bout, which gave the decision to Penn 49-47. A case can be made for Edgar but I dont think Penn should lose his title on such a bad or tight call. To be the champ you need to beat the champ IMO. The undercard saved this event, the three marquee fights were terrible, the whole Abu Dhabi event stunk to high heaven of cheap commercialism and fighters getting their pay packet and going home. Maybe the UFC culture of use and abuse is finally catching up to it. The irony of this result in the land of glorious excess was not lost on me.

Inverted Triangle

What I like about this clip is the initial breakdown of this classic prone judo posture.

Preview UFC 112

This weekends UFC has got card of the year written all over it. Here is a link to the breakdown of the maincard from Sherdog. And for the record, there is a mention of the Particle Collider that I posted a video about here only a few days ago. Who says there is no link between quantum physics and MMA? Penn, Silva and Hughes for mine, but Renzo getting the win via submission would make my day. Here is some footage of Demian Maia training to fight Anderson Silva.

Particle Physics

This is for Marco. It has nothing to do with training at all, but more along the lines of Life, The Universe & Everything.

Happy Easter.

Powerful Yoga - Matt Thornton

Renzo teaching Almeida

The guy cant stand without exposing his neck because he needs his hand on the ground to post on. Very Nice. This is how Almeida finished his fight at UFC 111. Nice one.
